Our language is different from that of China, and therefore cannot be communicated using Chinese Characters. Thus, there are many among the foolish people who, though they have something they wish to say, ultimately cannot express their intentions. Taking pity on this, I have created 28 new letters so that everyone may easily learn them and conveniently use them in their daily lives.
The background of Hangul's creation dates back to the 15th century during the Joseon Dynasty. At that time, King Sejong recognized the need for a script that common people could easily read and write. Although the Korean language is entirely different from Chinese, the Chinese characters then in use took a significant amount of time to learn, and common people especially had limited opportunities to study them.
King Sejong resolved to create a new writing system tailored to the phonetic structure of the Korean language to overcome these challenges.

Hunminjeongeum was designed to accurately represent sounds, with consonants and vowels symbolizing the shapes of articulatory organs and the principles of heaven, earth, and man, making it easy for anyone to learn. For example, the consonant 'ㄱ'(giyuk) mimics the position of the tongue, and 'ㅁ'(mieum) represents the shape of the mouth, while vowels represent heaven (•), earth (ㅡ), and human (ㅣ). This intuitive and visual composition of consonants and vowels makes it easy to understand the relationship between the letters and their sounds, making Hangul both easy to learn and a scientifically advanced script.
